Una de las proclamas clave del manifiesto Edupunk de Jim Groom era su denuncia de que las empresas “nos están vendiendo nuestras propias ideas”.

Blackboard is providing academic users with access to historical multimedia resources from NBC Learn. The two companies today announced that that they’ve inked a deal to make historical and current events materials from NBC News accessible within the Blackboard Learn platform.
Este anuncio de acuerdo entre BlackBoard y NBC Learn no ha hecho más que reafirmarle en su postura. Para Groom y para Mike Caulfield, este acuerdo supone deslegitimar el uso de contenidos libremente accesibles en el aula por parte de los profesores: “They innovate by selling us back what is already ours” (Caulfield).

Obviamente, no. De hecho, el propio Mike Coulfield, hablando de BlackBoard, define los LMS como gestores de control de acceso, ya que son entornos cerrados que se basan en restringir el uso de contenidos externos, y el acceso a los contenidos del curso por parte de personas ajenas a la institución educativa.
Su concepción del aprendizaje es análoga al aula, un entorno cerrado que pretende tener el monopolio del aprendizaje, pero el Conectivismo y los Personal Learning Environments nos ofrecen otras soluciones. ¿Qué ocurre cuando los profesores deciden ir más allá del LMS?

And so on. They started to experience the creativity that the web can unleash, and experienced for the first time that connectivist thrill people had been going on about.
Steve Wheeler, de la Universidad de Plymouth, ahonda en esta misma línea cuando afirma: “Institutions that use VLEs are in danger of turning the Web back into a a funnel”.
